The Moroccan Tiles art is one of the oldest workmanship in Morocco; as a craft, it has survived through challenging times; especially in old cities; like Fez and Marrakech and meekness. Throughout history, the Moroccan tiles prospered in the Maghreb area; the Arabs-Andalusians craftsmen; developed their architecture techniques; however, they replaced the glass with glazed and cut ceramics; added more colors; all in this original form of decoration. for instance; people used Moroccan tiles; generally to improve their homes; as an announcement of luxury and extravagance.

This workmanship; Moroccan tiles art; stayed exceptionally constrained at that time; only a particular segment of society was using this art; until the Marinid ruled the kingdom; in their reign; they generalized it, and gave it more significance around the 14th century; also; Islamic architects developed this craft, and added other colors to those tiles; like blue, green, and yellow. Later then; they included Red as well, in the seventeenth century.

Fortunately, today; some craftsmen; who inherited this craft from their ancestors;  they still use some of those techniques; and particularly in Morocco, where many workshops, continue the traditional crafts with varying degrees of authenticity.

Initially, as the first step in the process of making tiles; is the fabrication of ceramic slabs, using the most excellent clay; the craftsmen made the slabs by hand and backed them in fire kilns.

The second step; is to sketch the design on the pre-glazed ceramic tiles, also, drawing the contours; using fine brushes dabbed in the paint.
The colors used are very smooth and uniform also eye-catching. After they finish contouring the motif; then, the craftsmen start cutting the tiles; throughout this step; every move must be steady, and accurate to make flawless motifs.

Thirdly, after sketching and cutting the tiles; which is a delicate step in the making process; this work requires the precision to cut small shapes of tiles; according to a precise radius size; with this in mind, Highly skilled craftsmen trim the edges delicately to closely match the contours of the designs then bevel the edge. As they finish the pieces; the chef artisan puts the pieces together; to adjust the imperfect ones; so that they would fit perfectly in their place with the other pieces..

Eventually, At the end when all the pieces are ready; the craftsmen assemble and drizzle the pieces with plaster; to ensure that all are in places; after that, they splash water, and then, they pour gypsum plaster into the mold and leave it to dry; Finally, the Moroccan tiles are ready for installation. The Moroccan tiles making procedure; and Despite the development of the market; it has not shifted for a thousand years, however, some workshops integrated new advancements; like machines and so. but still, and due to this workmanship obligations; craftsmen perform the majority of work by hand and simple tools.
